“A house, in whatever form it may take, is not simply where we rest our head, it’s a personal reflection of who we are.” – Megs and Cholë, Conteu Magazine

Last week one of my favourite South African artists released her latest collection – ‘ABODE’. I’ve been following Maria Magdalena Van Wyk’s work for a the last couple years and a few months ago I started chatting to her after we connected over Instagram. I was drawn to her work because of its incredible detail that she somehow makes look so whimsical and effortless and it rings true for me more than ever when going through ABODE.

Maria is currently working on a commission for me to celebrate a very important date coming up in a couple of months, I honestly cannot wait to see what she comes up with, but for now here’s a little more info on ABODE.

ABODE is a collaboration between Maria and  Conteu Magazine a local quarterly online publication that celebrates authentic local craft. I can’t believe I’ve never read Conteu before because it’s amazing, do yourself a favour and check out their latest issue here. The collection is themed around one question:  If people started looking like their homes, what would they look like?

Maria took her experience of moving to Cape Town and the people she’s met along the way as inspiration for each illustration. To read the full story for each illustration click here and of course buy your own here!
