As you probably already know I love Johannesburg and everything that comes with it! The city is literally littered with hundreds of public art works and I love going on walks to look at them and find new ones.
One of my favorite pieces in the city is definitely Pigeon Square which is filled with crazy looking pigeons all day! The group of sculptures is titled Paper Pigeon and is the product of a collaboration between artists Gerhard Marx and Maja Marx. Each origami-like pigeon is about three meters tall.
Ferreirasdorp, where the pigeons can be found is said to be Joburg’s first Chinatown so I suppose the sculptures pay homage to that heritage, if you go early in the morning you will find shop owners in the area scattering seeds between the sculptures, it’s really beautiful to watch.
