Packing a lunch is a mission, yes it’s cheaper and probably healthier but I think we can all agree that it’s a bit of a task planning and packing a lunch, especially when there are a million other things on your mind. So often I’m astounded by the long line of cars at the Macdonalds drive in, or the ques of people at Woolies (guilty as charged). in Braamfontein however is the answer to all your lunch packing and belly wobbling woes.
Love food is the brainchild of and only operates during office hours during the week but the best time to pop into Jamie’s little shop of wonders is around lunchtime when the harvest table of fresh food, including salads, protein, sandwiches and about a million other things is laid out. It’s also a good idea to get there early to get a table if you’re planning on sitting down.
I was joined by my good friends Dani and Nicole from . Dani and Nicole are experts on all things Vegan and Vegetarian and Love Food got their stamp of approval so if you’re not into meat or milk this is the place for you…and if you’re like me and you quite enjoy a leg of chicken its great too.
The harvest table is so full of food everyday that you’ll have a hard time picking what you want. Eventually we decided on trying a little bit of everything. On the day we went we had a selection of Beef Lasagne, Fish, Pork Sausages, Beetroot Salad, Zucchini Salad, Cauliflower Salad, a Green Salad, a Lentil Salad, and some tasty bread.
Love Food is also unique in that they don’t charge by weight rather by product.
Three Types of salads – R40
Five types of salads – R54
Add beef/chicken/fish/pork R18
Daily special – R42
For a full meal you’re looking at an average of just under R60 .
If you’re popping into Love Food for a drink you must try their Green Juice, made from spinach, ginger and a few other nutritious ingredients, Dani can vouch for it.
