Every time a new South African brand pops up I can actually feel my heart swelling with pride, I think it’s so amazing that we’re such a nation of entrepreneurs and have the creativity to create quality brands and businesses. I first heard about Bed Bath Body when one of the owners Lisa popped me a mail and invited me to come check out her pop-up store in 44 Stanley in Johannesburg.
The first thing that struck me about Bed Bath Body was the smell, I could quite literally smell their store from down the road, it smelt of fresh laundry, lemongrass and freshly cut wood (I think the wood smell was because they had just installed their shop fittings hehe). Bed Bath Body is a family run business, Lisa Schoeman with the help of her friend Georgia run the Joburg side of the business while Lisa’s parents run the manufacturing side of things from their family farm in KZN.
There are no fancy names you have to remember at Bed Bath Body as each scent/set of ingredients is listed by a number, it’s kinda like Macdonalds for your house…minus the heart disease! Each ‘number’ consists of everything from diffusers, creams, room + linen spray, candles and even car freshener kits. Once you’ve found your favourite you can make your whole life smell good. I’m a firm favourite of No 5 – Fresh Fig and their hand cream and soap have a place of honour in my bathroom. There are six types in total so there’s definitely something for everyone.
Every product in Bed Bath Body has been created from scratch by Lisa and her mom and their team in KZN, it also seems like they created them all overnight as they had their shop up and running within a few weeks of deciding to launch the brand in Joburg. As I mentioned the products smell flipping amazing but they’re also infused with essential oils and fragrances so they’re good for you too! Their products are also paraben-free and they only use biodegradable preservatives.
Product prices range from R70 for a bottle of Hand and Body Lotion to R295 for a Ceramic Aroma Candle, most of their prices come in at under R100, if that’s not value for money I don’t know what is! You can shop the range online but I’d really recommend heading through to the Bed Bath Body store at 44 Stanley to actually touch and experience the products, they’ve also done such a lovely job of creating a beautiful environment to shop in it would be a shame to miss out on it. A little birdy also told me that there is a Parys store opening very soon so keep an eye out for that too!
