Decorating my apartment honestly brings me so much joy. I’m constantly on the lookout for knick naks that will make the space more inviting and if you follow me on social media you’ll notice I recently picked up a few larger pieces for my lounge and bedroom.

WIN! I’m giving away R2000 in vouchers to help you makeover a room in your house, scroll to the end of the post for competition details!

My bedroom has been a work in progress for the past three months, it all started with an incredible mid century style dresser that I found at Re-Trend In Linden, which pretty much set the tone for the entire room…and my house. Next came the paint. When we moved in the feature wall in our room was this weird grey colour that I hated from the moment I saw it. Craig and I hummed and hawed for ages what colour to repaint it until we decided on just going with plain white.

As we were about to get cracking on painting the whole room white, Dulux approached me and asked me to try out their colour of the year – Steel Symphony 2 – my immediate thought was ‘NO, not more grey!’ until I actually did a swatch on my wall and saw what an incredibly beautiful colour it really is…and no I’m not just saying that!

Our entire apartment has parquet flooring ( a requirement that I insisted on when we were looking for a place), and the grey turns an incredible modge podge of grey and blue when mixed with the dark wood of the floor and the dresser and it actually adds light to the room instead of sucking it out like I thought a dark colour would!

To mix things up we decided to paint the feature wall white and the rest of the room with Steel Symphony instead of the other way round.

Which brings me to my new pride and joy my headboard, also from Re-Trend! If you like mid century furniture you’ll know that headboards are hard to come by, especially when you have a queen size bed. They just didn’t make headboards that size back in the day. So finding this beauty was so lucky I still can’t believe it…and it just happens to match the dresser!

The rest of the room was decorated by a few new goodies and a few old ones…and of course loads of plants because a room isn’t a room unless it’s a jungle right? The picture above our bed is of Craig and I on our wedding day, it was his present to me on our first wedding anniversary…because, you know, paper! The cute illustration on Craig’s side of the bed is an illustration I commissioned Maria Magdalena to do for him for the same anniversary.

I got a couple of the pots from Mr P Home on sale which was such a bargain, and then the rest of the decorations were all from charity stores or gifts that I’ve had for ages just waiting to find the perfect space for them.
