“I just flew a plane…holy smokes I just flew a plane!” I kept repeating this to myself a couple weeks ago after my awesome air safari with African Wings. The plane took off and landed in Grootbos so if you’re staying at the lodge you have no excuse not to do it. I’ve never been one to be shaken by flying, but there is definitely something a little terrifying about steering a plane with three other people in it (okay one was a very experienced pilot). If you are planning on going on one of their plane rides and you are a little queasy just be prepared to feel a little ill, having said that I generally have the worst stomach but I was completely fine the entire ride.
Evan and Dave Austin run African Wings from Hermanus, and they are almost as entertaining as bobbing and weaving through the air, so if you’re in the area, especially during whale season you absolutely have to give them a call. Although it wasn’t whale season when I went a few weeks ago I did see a Great White and about a million seals, birds and of course the incredible landscapes of the Overberg.
