I really love parks and luckily Joburg has some of the most amazing parks dotted all around the city. By far my favourite park is Earnest Oppenheimer Park in the center of town. Not only does it have some fantastic art work it also has an amazing basketball court that’s always open and it’s smack bang in the middle of the city’s retail district so you can pick up a bargain, grab some food and enjoy the park all in one go!

There is such a stigma still surrounding the inner city and I think this park really shows what the inner city is really like. I go to the park all the time  so if anyone wants to join me on my next walk just let me know here, or if you would like to find it on your own it’s on the corner of Market St and Joubert St.

Artists that contributed to the park are: Sipho Gwala, Mfundo Ketye, Stone Mabunda, Malakia Mothapo

The park features a replica of the Ernest Oppenheimer diamond…but obviously way bigger. I can imagine Kim Kardashian getting a diamond this size from Kanye

These cute little bokkies pay homage to the original Impala sculpture that can now be found in the Mining District a few blocks away

The park is built on the site of the original Standard Theater which was one of the city’s first sources of entertainment for miners…now all that remains is this wooden carving of what it used to look like
