So you’ve been to Cape Town and seen the mountain seen all the natural beauty…what’s next? Juma Art Tours led by Juma Mkwela, takes you on a tour through Cape Town’s oldest and newest suburb Woodstock, which contains so many public art works you won’t know what direction to look in.Woodstock has a long history and is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the Cape, it was however one of the few areas that managed to remain integrated during Apartheid and survived being declared a ‘whites only’ area with the attendant forced removals and demolition of houses as happened in nearby District Six. Since then Woodstock has undergone a massive urban renewal, which has seen many loft type buildings popping up making it the perfect breeding ground for young creative South Africans. One of the major parts of this urban renewal has been the massive art project that has seen so many walls decked out in the most beautiful art. Artists from around the world are commissioned to share their art with the community resulting in a mix of art unique enough to rival the colourful and diverse Woodstock locals.
You can book your tour with the talented Juma, who also happens to be an artist (you can even see some of his work on the tour) for R200, which is such a bargain for the experience you will get.
