Roast Cafe is a welcomed addition to a string of average chain coffee shops that litter its avenues. Now I’m not saying those coffee shops are not worth a visit, just that if I had a choice Roast Cafe would be my first.
Roast Cafe is the coffee shop front to the much welcomed Goliath Comedy Club that will play host to much loved South African and international comedians. While I haven’t had a chance to laugh till my sides hurt at the club, I did have a chance to visit the cafe and hang out with one of its owners, and resident funny guy, Donovan Goliath.
As I mentioned, Roast Cafe is an independent cafe which means it stands out a little from the rest in terms of coffee blends, food and design. Chances are the beautiful copper lights and patterned tiles will grab your attention but what will really draw you in is the huge table of baked goods filled with beautiful and incredibly tasty cakes, cookies and croissants. I really recommend the Nutella Cheesecake, I honestly never eat cheesecake because of a pretty severe dairy allergy so that’s saying something!
Aside from the table of goodies the rest of the cafe’s menu is really healthy and had me feeling like a million bucks. You can check out the entire menu here but look out for their tasty breakfasts and salads both of which are beautifully presented and even better to eat. When I visited I had the Watermelon Slushie (R32) which actually has real watermelon in it and the Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Salad (R75). The salad is a really hefty portion so chances are you’ll be taking some home for later if you’re anything like me, its made up of Rice Noodles, Grilled Chicken, Zucchini, Carrots, Cucumber Noodles, Chilli, Garlic, Soy Honey and a whole lot of love!
As soon as I get a chance to visit the Comedy Club I’ll be sure to post a review to let you know all about it. What other independent cafes make you want to eat till you pop, I’d love to visit them!
