I don’t really remember when or how Master Chef became a huge part of my life it just did. Never would I have imagined myself with my nose inches from the screen screaming at my favourite contestant for not cooking their macaroons for long enough or cursing at the consistency of the yolk of a poached egg.
Master Chef SA must be one of our best-produced shows, and I’d always dreamt of getting to taste the delicious looking dishes they serve up every week. When Tsogo Sun invited me to meet Benny Masekwameng AND take part in a Mystery Box Challenge I pretty much pooped my pants.
The Mystery Box dinner was hosted at the Southern Sun Montecasino in Punchinellos and I got to meet some awesome new people and reconnect with old blogger friends and I got to meet Benny…he’s the super nice judge who kinda looks like a teddy bear.
I was really overwhelmed by how friendly Benny was and he took the time to chat to each guest, he didn’t even mind answering all my stupid questions…he has about twenty white chef outfits…and no his wife doesn’t wash them he gets them laundered.
Benny also plans to write a recipe book focusing on traditional South African meals and the stories and the people behind them, he also hopes to get involved in feeding schemes in primary schools all around South Africa, he was really passionate about this idea and I hope one day he gets to make a difference.
Our Mystery Box dinner turned out to be fish and mussels with some pretty flipping delicious potatoes that I really need to find out how to make! The ingredients change every week and the end result is up to the chef.
If you want to get involved and treat your taste buds the Mystery Box dinners are being held every weekday till September 11 at The Sandton Sun, The Palazzo Montecasino, The Beverly Hills, The SunCoast Towers, 54 on Bath – and the Southern Sun hotels. You also get to judge the meal afterwards and stand a chance to win five nights’ at the Beverly Hills hotel in Umhlanga, with dinner, bed and breakfast for two, as well as a dinner prepared by Benny.
