PLEASE NOTE THIS COMPETITION HAS CLOSED.
I remember how exciting it was planning for my matric dance, at the time it seemed like the most important night of my life and I couldn’t concentrate in class and it was THE ONLY thing my friends and I spoke about for weeks and weeks. It was so special planning how we were going to get there, how we were going to do our makeup and swooning over our dates. Just thinking about my and my best friend dancing the night away makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I was really fortunate to have parents who were fortunate enough to help me make the dress of my dreams and give me the perfect night (thanks Mom and Dad), but I know that not everyone is as fortunate to have their dream Matric Dance so I was really amped when my lovely friend and fellow blogger from Tails Of A Mermaid came up with an awesome idea to help someone in need by hosting a competition to give away a matric dance dress.
We have been lucky enough to get YDE and MAC onboard, so thanks to the lovely ladies from both brands for helping us to make a difference in someone’s life. I got to do a quick shop at YDE this week to help put together a look to inspire you guys, how insanely awesome is the tutu?!
Thanks to for taking these awesome pics!

My little sister (Sam) has her matric dance coming up. She has had it quite rough these last few years, changing schools(my other sister is paying her school fees), unemployed parents getting divorced, her friend dying etc… I am taking her and paying to get her hair done but as far as I know she still needs a dress. This would be a godsend if she won!
My twin sister Carmelita Dos Ramos. Its not her matric dance, that I feel she deserves and has worked so very hard for all these amazing spoils – but it’s her final year university graduation ball, that I think she would be the the best suited candidate for this giveaway 🌸 She has studied for 5 years pursing two law degrees of which she has already obtained one and is completing the last one. She has faced many obstacles along the way but has managed to overcome them and walk steadfastly through life which is why I feel she is the most deserving. She is an inspiration to me despite being of the same age 🙈 Shes my pillar of strength anf my go to when life gets tough 💛 Her UCT graduation ball is in September and we have gone dress shopping together but no luck – everything is extremely expensive 😞 If she wins such an amazing giveaway, it would be the cherry on the top of the end of her university experience 💕 Please pick her 💛🌸
My friend Natasha and I have our matric dance coming up. She is struggling to find a dress she likes and can afford. We window shop at YDE and love trying on the dresses but they never leave the store because we can’t afford any of them. Winning this would be a dream come true and would make the preparations for the night infinitely easier. And that would make you and absolute ROCKSTAR! Please help us make our dreams a reality ❤️
My little sister Steph Sparks had her matric dance coming up and she is forever putting others in front of herself! This would be such a lovely spoil for her special night!
I myself, Danélle, would absolutely love to win this. I’ve been through quite the rough patch this year whilst in matric. My Matric Dance is coming up and I still haven’t got a dress. I only have a mother so I started working part time afterschool to pay towards my matric farewell that is coming up in September, but bad luck stroke when I was caught in an armed robbery and my phone was stolen. So I had to cover that expense first seeing that I had no insurance. I spent the whole holiday working and over easter weekend my grandfather had a stroke and his entire left side of his body doesn’t function anymore. He had to get medical treatment and physio weekly – which costs about R500+ a session so all the money I make promoting on weekends goes towards his medical bills. To top it off he got diagnosed with critical colon cancer. The news really shook our family.
I would really love to win this opportunity, it would really be such a great uplift to win this competition. I really do apologize for getting this personal and before ending off I just want to tell you how much I love your blog!
I would like to nominate a young lady who I tutor and mentor, Wendy Ncapa. Wendy lives in a township in Stellenbosch, Kaymandi, with her single mother and two younger sisters. She is finishing her matric this year and is hoping to start studying a Bcomm degree in 2018 (if we can sort out some finances for her). Her mother is a domestic worker and is often not at home, so Wendy often takes on the responsibility of being the lady of the house. On top of this, she does part time work as a runner at spur during the holidays to help her mum meet expenses. Everyday after school (yes – even on Friday’s) she attends extra lessons and classes in order to ensure she gets the best marks she possibly can (it is working – she is top of her class). Wendy has recently started selling muffins at her school to try raise money for her matric dance – however this has been a very slow process. I don’t think Wendy realizes how much she inspires and motivates me every single day. Her tenacity, persistence and resilience is unquestionable. She is so selfless and always puts others first, and she teaches me how to be a better person every day. In my opinion, Wendy is without question so deserving of this prize and opportunity. I would love for her to be spoilt and experience some of the finer luxuries, and to be treated like the incredible lady she is – she truly does deserve it.
Hi Tamryn! Good News, Wendy has won the competition!!!!!! Please could you email me at so I can arrange to get her voucher to her!
I would like to nominate a young women named Lindiwe, whose matric dance is on 18 August. Her mother (Mirrem) is a domestic worker on the West Rand of Johannesburg and works for my parents once a week. As a domestic worker, Mirrem does not earn a lot of money. She lives in a township where she is the sole breadwinner and supports herself, her mother and her four children (including Lindiwe). Despite this hardship, Mirrem has managed to scrape together R700 for Lindiwe’s ticket to the dance. However, she does not have money to buy her a dress like the ones at YDE. In fact, she has not yet been able to find a suitable dress she can afford after paying such a high price for the ticket. Although I have offered to let her try my smart dresses to see if one will fit for the night, the occasion would be that much more special if Lindiwe could pick her own dress from the wonderful selection at YDE – one that she loves on herself, that fits perfectly (because we are not quite the same size), one that lets her feel beautiful and that she can keep after the event! The opportunity to have her make-up done will also be quite unlike anything else she has ever experienced and will make the evening completely magical. Winning this will give Lindiwe the night of her dreams. It will also make her mother Mirrem so happy to see that her daughter will have such a special night. Without winning this giveaway, Lindiwe will not have an opportunity to get even close to the full princess experience for her dance.

Going to the matric dance is traditional , it’s every girl’s dream , mine too except that I can’t afford to go to mine . This is a great opportunity and any girl would be blessed to win it . I’m hoping that girl might be me !
Hi I’d like to nominate myself for this kind of an opportunity.I’d really be happy if I win the dress because getting it would mean something big for me, I mean it would close the big space on my heart because right now I really can’t afford getting a dress because right now my parents are not financially stable and that would lead me to not go to my last fare well. I believe that everyone should be there to just experience and see the other side of high school because some of us would say they really hate high school but there, you’ll be given the opportunity to see how high school has mothered you for the past years, now next year its your turn to be independent and fly your wings.
matric dance is all about dreamers, people who believe in themselves, people who say that next year its their time to shine I mean people who say next year you won’t find me here but expect to be sponsored in the next five(5) years. So it’s all about sharing dreams with others and letting light in some other’s lives.
I’d really love to win, to just have a night I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

Heeeelllooooo! 🙂 I am nominating my little sister, Micaela! My little sister is 6 years younger than me and she’s in matric this year – her matric dance is on the 21st of September! This chick is one hell of an inspiration, at 18 she is much stronger and independent than I ever was at her age! This little (this huge) help from YDE and MAC would literally make the world of difference! My little sister is leaving school and helping her have the best fairytale night would be a dream come true, for us both! I don’t have much to help her out, so this would totally get me the best sister award!!!! 🙂 This young ball of talent, is a young designer in the making! She’s been making clothes since the age of 15 – she’s just amazing! Matric is stressful as we all know, and trying to get something sorted for the Matric dance has proven difficult! This would be the best thing ever, my hard working, little sister, strong independent woman, truly deserves this spoil, in my opinion! Holding thumbs that with YDE and MAC, we can make her the talk of the town! Love you Sissie! xx
MY NAME IS OLWETHU MGOBO,I LIVE IN WEST RAND WITH MY AUNT AND HER TWO DAUGHTERS,GROWING UP I ALWAYS DREAMT OF HOW I WILL LOOK ON MY MATRIC DANCE DAY(WHICH I STILL DO).I HAD PLAND ABOUT EVERYTHING BUT ALL MY PLANS FADED AWAY BECAUSE MY MOM WAS ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL BECAUSE OF SOME MALICIOUS DESEASE THAT STRUCKED HER SO SHE HAD TO STOP WORKING AND ITS BEEN YEARS NOW,SO I MOVED WITH MY AUNT AND(NOT TO SHAME HER OR ANYTHING)BUT SHE MADE IT CLEAR TO ME THAT SHE IS NOT GOING TO HELP ME TO BE ABLE TO GO TO MATRIC DANCE.I THINK I DESERVE TO WIN,NOT BECAUSE OF MY STORY BUT BECAUSE I ALSO DESERRVE A CHANCE IN LIFE AND TO PROVE THAT GOD WORKS IN AMAZING WAYS AND HE IS GREAT AND TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT THERE ARE SOME ROSES WHO GROW OUT OF THE CONCRETE WHEN NO ONE ELSE EVEN CARED.
