Every day I hear the same thing, “I don’t have time” or “I wish I had time for that”. Often people don’t realise just how much time they have in their day.
A year or so ago a good friend of mine taught me the power of a to-do-list that has allowed me to run two blogs, a business, work full time and somehow manage to have an amazing relationship, and the best part is it’s really easy.
Now this isn’t a normal to do list where the list goes on an on forever, it’s a list specific to each day and more importantly to time.
Today I want you to take a pice of paper or a notebook and write down exactly what you have to do and how much time you need or will allow yourself to complete that task. For example.
8AM to 8.30AM – breakfast
8.30AM to 9.30 AM – emails
9.30 AM to 10AM – meeting with Joe Soap
10 AM to 10.15 AM – emails
10.15 AM to 12 AM – writing
…you get the picture.
On another page or the page opposite to your to-do-list keep a space for any notes that you may need to take during the day.
When you allot time to a certain task you give yourself a limit. If you don’t finish a certain task within that set time you are impacting the rest of your day, and now you can actually see how. What I love about this type of to-do-list is that often tasks will take way shorter than you anticipate allowing you to move on to the next task, but don’t think that means you get that earned time off to procrastinate, use it to learn a new skill or start on the next day’s work.
If you have any questions or want to try it our for yourself leave a comment below and we can chat. Enjoy saving time and being awesome.
Just as an aside I found these beautiful notebooks at Country Road, they are so beautiful I couldn’t resist sharing them with you.
