What happens when two people who love Joburg find a block of empty warehouses in Joburg? The Sheds @1Fox thats what. 1 Fox is the lovechild of Gerald Garner (my hero) and Jan Roodeand will develop into a hub of restaurants, shops, offices and venues over the next few years. For some time now I’ve been walking past The Sheds and watching them develop from a set of derelict empty warehouses to what I believe is fast become Joburg’s favourite market…and it’s only been open for a week.
So what makes The Sheds different from any other typical Joburg market? Well for one you could fit Arts on Main and Neighbourgoods into a corner of The Sheds, it’s huge, which means no shoving and no getting someones hair in your hollandaise sauce as you try to squeeze past in search of a table. Oh yes, that’s another thing there are so many tables to pick from you will never be left holding your newly made waffle awkwardly as you try to eat it standing up.
The market will also eventually be open everyday of the week, delicious shopping and food everyday of the week, yum! Although there is a lovely bar section to the market the overall vibe seems more family orientated and a little more relaxed than some of it’s counterparts.
For now you can visit The Sheds@1Fox every Thursday to Sunday, trading from 10:00 – 18:00.
The beautiful Angie came to explore the suburb with me, she really is the best!
I sipped on an iced chocolate drink from happy.me, please try it it’s so delicious I just wish they stocked soy milk!
We got a sneak peak of the undeveloped side of The Sheds, I can’t wait to see what it looks like in a few years time.
On the same day I went Dean Oelschig shot a really awesome video on hid Go Pro of the market, you can watch it below:
